Daily Care

Pearls are organic gems and can be very strong. However, they are also more delicate than other gemstones and metals. Pearls are a soft gemstone which means they can crack and be scratched, which dulls them. However, with proper care you can keep your pearls for years to come.

Pearls are vulnerable to acid, alkaline and extremes of humidity. To preserve your pearls’ radiance, avoid letting them come into contact with cosmetics, hair spray, perfume or other chemicals. Always put on your jewellery as a final touch, after applying make-up and styling hair. Before returning your pearls to the jewellery box, wipe them gently with a soft cloth.

Pearls may be scratched by contact with sharp objects, metals or other gemstones. Keep them separated from other jewellery to avoid scratches. Never store your pearl necklaces hanging, always lie them down in their box, ideally inside a linen bag.

Avoid high temperatures, therefore don’t wear your pearls while sunbathing, or leave them next to a heater.

Avoid chemicals, only clean your pearls with a soft damp cloth.

If you use your pearl necklace a lot we recommended you to get it re-strung once a year. Over time the thread will discolour, stretch and get weaker. This can be done at your local jewellery shop. Frogpearl does not currently offer any re-string service.

Leaving pearl jewellery in a security box for long periods may cause pearls to dehydrate, so enjoy them frequently. There is a saying that “pearls want to be worn,” and it is true!
